Gene Hackman’s Will in Dispute Following New Evidence

Fresh details surrounding the death of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman have altered the timeline of his final days and raised uncertainty over his $80-million estate.

Authorities originally believed his wife, Betsy Arakawa, died on 11 February but new evidence shows she made a phone call to a medical service on 12 February. She sought treatment but never followed up.

Her cause of death was confirmed as hantavirus, a rare disease linked to rodents. Hackman, who was 95 years old, is believed to have passed away around 18 February, likely unaware of his wife’s death due to advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

Adding further complexity, Hackman’s will left his entire fortune to Betsy, with nothing allocated to his three children: Christopher, Elizabeth, and Leslie. Since Betsy died first, legal experts say his children may still inherit. Christopher has reportedly hired a top trust lawyer, suggesting a legal challenge may be forthcoming.

Hackman, who led a reclusive life in recent years, admitted to struggling with fatherhood due to his Hollywood career but had made an effort to repair relationships. His daughters and granddaughter described him as a beloved father and grandfather, mourning his loss.
